Book Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Title: Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Author: Laini Taylor
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal
Publisher: Little, Brown & Company
Publication Date: September 27, 2011

Synopsis: Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself? Read more ...

Review: Dear Laini Taylor, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY HEART?!?! I HAVE ALL OF THE FEELINGS. This novel was truly amazing and possibly the best book that I have read this year. I went into this story pretty much blind and would totally recommend doing that. Do not be off-put by descriptions of 'fantasy' or 'paranormal'. Taylor is such a great story-teller and it was so wonderful to allow her to take me away and discover the plot and characters through her wonderful writing. Because of this, I don’t want to give too much away in this review.

Nevertheless, I think it is important to mention that Daughter of Smoke and Bone was a beautiful, exciting, hilarious (at times – oh Zuzana!), and completely UNEXPECTED novel. Taylor is a masterful story-teller and allows her imagination to become borderless. And the world building – superb. And the characters – so well developed. Oh! And the ending … heartbreaking.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone is as close to prefect as possible. So, maybe, DEFINITELY, you should go read this novel.
My only complaint is the cover. WHAT. WERE. THEY. THINKING? I love this novel so much that I actually might even buy it at amazon.co.uk and pay shipping to get one of these oh so b-e-a-utiful covers:

Hard Cover                                      Paperback

 Aren't they soooooo pretty?
Warning: AMAZING.
What to look forward to from Laini Taylor: Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2) on November 6, 2012
My Rating: 5.0/5.0
